Som en flod utan bro (Like a river without a bridge), 2006
Site-specific sound installation in Hökarängen, Stockholm
Like a river without a bridge is a sound installation based on quotations, statistics, and observations. It investigates the relation between two areas of the suburb Hökarängen: its eastern part and its western part. A single loudspeaker placed in a tunnel under Hökarängen metro station plays words spoken by an authoritarian male voice (that of actor Kenneth Mildoff) to the station’s passers-by. The voice narrates a mix of direct and indirect postulations about economic and class aspects of the suburb. Some of these sayings are quotes from individuals who live in the suburb, who are able to recognize themselves in the narration, and others are more poetic observations on architecture and the surrounding area.
